This article explains how to configure Windows and Macintosh computers for either a public or private static IP address when connected behind an NVG 510 on a U-verse Business account that is configured to only hand out one or the other.
For instructions on configuring the NVG 510 for static IPs, see AT&T HSIA U-verse Static IP - Tier 2.
The NVG 510 is not capable of assigning both public and private IPs through DHCP. This means that the NVG 510 can only assign private or public IP addresses, but not both.
- If the customer needs to have both private IPs and public IPs on their network, it is preferred that the NVG 510’s DHCP pool is set to Private and the devices that require static IPs are configured manually for the desired static IP.
- If the Primary DHCP pool is set to Public and the NVG 510 reboots, it automatically assigns public IP addresses to the first devices it sees which may not be the devices that need the public IPs. This can cause problems in the functioning of the network and results in the customer calling in.
Static IP configuration of any other devices is unsupported, and we are only able to provide the IP address, Subnet mask, default gateway, preferred DNS server, and Secondary DNS server.
